Understanding and Managing Career Decisions

Kay Fittes, April, 2022

Decisions, decisions, decisions!  The need to make decisions surrounds you, at home and at work.  In the November/December 2020 newsletter, I talked about making your own decisions.  The challenge is to think independently and make decisions unduly influenced by others.  We are going down the decision pathway again, but this time focused on other challenges of decision making.  Perhaps, you are one of the fortunate individuals who do not struggle to decide or have regrets after.  [Read More]

Adventures in Decision-Making

  1. Forecasting.  Forecast three to six months down the road in your job.  Identify one decision that you may need to make.  This should be a decision that is not pressing you currently.  Consider a decision that is of moderate importance, has some significance to you but is not one that is dramatically career-impacting.

  2. Piloting:  Imagine that it has become essential that you come to a decision on this chosen situation.  Take 30-60 minutes to consider the questions above.  For ruminators, limit yourself to around 30 minutes to complete the questions.  Yep, you guessed it, jumpers take an entire hour.  Are the words, “Speed It Up and Slow It Down” ringing in your ears?  Great!

  3. Discussing:  Discuss this game plan with your most trusted advisor, someone who understands your work situation, culture, and your personal challenges.

Don’t trust yourself to be able to run this pilot?  Maybe that is an indication that more guidance could be necessary for you.  There is no shame in that.  If our own behaviors were easy to manage, the world wouldn’t need counselors, coaches, and consultants.  Alas, we often need help.

Email me at kay@highheeledsuccess.com or call (513) 561-4288 and we will set up a time for a complimentary 45-minute consultation to determine if this could be a valuable step for you.

Testimonial

“Kay has guided me on a journey of self-awareness and professional growth through a combination of individual & group coaching.  My “Aha” moment was realizing that my behavior was not sending the message I thought it was sending.  Today I am more aware of myself, the behaviors of those around me and how we impact each other.  Individual coaching equipped me with tools to focus my energy, become self-aware and to be intentional as I interact with others.  Group coaching provided a network of professionals to which we learned from and supported each other.  Through Kay’s guidance, I discovered the importance of networking, identifying areas of expertise in myself and others, slowing down, listening & observing.  Group coaching has equipped me to use my passion in a more effective way.”
