Self-Discipline

Self-Discipline for Success

Kay Fittes, October, 2022

Even as I write this, I can feel the urge to postpone it until later.  When I think about self-discipline, I must smile.  My journey to self-discipline has been lifelong.  I grew up in a family where there were no expectations of me.  I didn’t have to do anything, not make my bed, not wash the dishes, not take out the trash.  Not a particularly good environment for learning self-discipline.  I developed no self-discipline muscle.  My discipline and work ethic were strongly influenced by the role model set by my husband, who has an incredible work ethic and self-discipline.   [Read More]

Creating Discipline Muscle

  1. Planning.  People who have self-discipline have a plan.  That plan goes into print daily.  You have no way of evaluating your self-discipline or getting started with self-discipline without a plan.  A plan in print holds you accountable.  For clients who are resistant to in print planning, I suspect they are trying to evade evidence of their shaky self-discipline.  Even those of you that love winging it, will find that a plan in print will give you benefits.

  2. Debugging.  If you were going on a new healthy eating regimen you would ditch the donuts, the ice cream, and the high calorie soft drinks.  The same is true when you are working to develop more discipline, remove the temptations.  If every time you attempt to work on an important work project but find yourself on social media, close your devices.  Your Instagram account may be a siren song that takes you down a very unproductive path.  Self-discipline is tough enough, why would you sabotage yourself by putting potential obstacles all around you?

  3. Forgiving.  This is a journey that will have many ups and downs.  If you castigate yourself each time you falter in your self-discipline, the road is going to be far more difficult.  Forgive yourself for your hiccups, it just proves you are human.  Compassion is the band aid on the wound that helps keep us going.  Beating yourself up is the opposite of what you need.  Though it may sound cheesy, loving yourself into self-discipline is the way to go.

Starting on this path can be quite daunting.  Could a partner in self-discipline be the ticket to get you rolling?  This is a common challenge that I partner with clients to develop.  We won’t know if this could be beneficial unless we talk.  Email kay@highheeledsuccess.com or call (513) 561-4288 to set up a time for a complementary 45-minute telephone consultation.

Referral Letter From a Thrilled Conference Organizer

Dear Kay,

I am writing to provide a professional reference for Kay Fittes.  Lead Her Events had the pleasure of working with Kay as the keynote speaker at the Lead Her Conference for female entrepreneurs.  She was extremely well versed in business; she also ranks among the very best speakers I’ve ever encountered.  Her speech on the topics of female empowerment and leadership have influenced many female entrepreneurs who have partnered with High-Heeled Success.

Her passion for the subject matter is infectious.  In just 40 minutes, attendees gain a fresh perspective on how to develop strategies and innovate their skillset in business.  She draws on her extensive career as a consultant, award winning author and business powerhouse.

Her presentations are packed with illuminating anecdotes, statistics, a powerful gladiator type of story, and a refreshing dose of good humor.  At our request, in March 2022, Kay Fittes crafted a special keynote presentation for the 2022 Lead Her Female Entrepreneur Conference.  Her expertise in the field of business was superb.  We found it a pleasure to work with Kay Fittes and recommend her for upcoming keynote opportunities.

Warm Regards,

Katrina Brown & Garri Davis
